Meine Liebe zu Island begann im Jahr 1995. Damals war Island noch nicht der touristische Fixpunkt, der es heute ist, und nur wenige Fotografen waren dort gewesen. Drei Wochen verbrachte ich damit, auf holprigen Feldwegen um die Insel zu fahren, und unternahm mehrere Wanderungen ins Hochland. Die Schönheit der Landschaft hat mich überwältigt. Mir wurde klar, dass drei Wochen viel zu kurz waren, um diesem fantastischen Land gerecht zu werden. Infolgedessen habe ich nun insgesamt 49 Reisen unternommen und fast ein ganzes Jahr damit verbracht, die Insel zu fotografieren. Ich habe die Landschaft mit Allradfahrzeugen durchquert und 180 Stunden damit verbracht, Luftaufnahmen aus Flugzeugen und Hubschraubern zu machen.
Auch habe ich versucht, die beliebtesten Touristenorte zu meiden. Damit wollte ich meine eigene Interpretation dieser einzigartigen Landschaft schaffen. Zusätzlich zu all diesen geplanten Fotoaufnahmen hatte ich das große Glück, im Mai 2010 den Ausbruch des Eyjafjallajökull fotografieren zu dürfen. Ein Erlebnis, bei dem sich das vulkanische Temperament von Mutter Erde direkt vor meiner Kamera offenbarte.

(Original description) Iceland
My love affair with Iceland started in 1995. At that time Iceland had not yet become the fix star for tourism as it has become today and few photographers had been there. I spent 3 weeks driving around the island on bumpy dirt roads and did several hikes into the highlands. The beauty of the landscape blew me away. I realised that 3 weeks of photography was way too short time to do this fantastic country justice. As a result I have now made a total of 49 trips and spent almost a full year photographing the island. I have criss crossed the landscape with 4W-drives and spent 180 hours shooting aerials from planes and helicopters. I have tried to avoid the most popular tourist locations. This to make my own interpretations of a unique landscape. On top of all these planned photography, I was also blessed with the opportunity to photograph the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in May 2010. An experience where the volcanic temperament of Mother Earth showed up right in front of my camera.
